3 Top Reasons to Read Fiction

Like most people who love to read, I have quite a stack of books in my "to be read" pile, and that's not even counting what's on my Kindle.

# 1 Reason to read:  It's fun!  And who doesn't like to have fun? (That's a rhetorical question.  I can't imagine anyone not actually wanting to have fun.) If you're the more reserved type, you might say, "It's quite enjoyable."  However you want to say it -- reading rocks!   I've traveled to places, seen, tasted, smelled, heard, and lived experiences through books -- that in real life  -- would have not been possible without time travel or a bulging money-laden wallet.  A good book is to be appreciated, savored, and sometimes devoured. And there's no rule that says you have to read indoors.  Take it outdoors and enjoy some peace and quiet.

# 2 Reason to read:  It's good for the brain!  It's true.  I read somewhere that reading fiction is actually good for the brain. Stimulates brain cells or something.  I don't have the official scientific data at my fingertips to back that up, but I believe it. I can certainly speak from personal experience -- my brain and I love good fiction. Creativity stimulates the mind.  Yep, turns out brains cells don't just respond to scientific facts, algebraic expressions, or reams of data. Not that there's anything wrong with those particular things.  Not at all. Those are all wonderful things to learn and expand the mind, as well as whatever else you're particularly called to do, gifted, or interested in.  I'm just saying that reading fiction is good for you.  It actually gets those neurons zipping back and forth.

# 3 Reason to read:   You actually burn calories.  Okay, so how many you burn depends on your height, weight, and age.  But still, calories are being burned while reading.  If you want to amp up the burn, exercise on a stationary exercise bike while reading, or if you're really graceful, walk on a treadmill.  If exercising and reading are both good for you, why not combine the two if you're short on time?

I'm sure you could come up with more reasons to read, but honestly, you don't have to have any other reason to read than ...you want to. So many books.....so little time. But make time.  You'll not regret one single second of the experience.

What's the most recent fiction book you've read?

Happy Reading!
Susan
