When Karenna’s life plans suddenly change after being jilted at the altar, she takes off driving with no destination in mind when she finds herself in a diner in Washington State and reading a magazine article about Treasure Creek, Alaska. She has no plans, no job, and no fiancé. Even her own mother blames her for her fiancé’s abandonment. Life certainly doesn’t seem fair. Treasure Creek sounds like a wonderful place – and the article says it just happens to be full of churchgoing bachelors with marriage on their minds. What does she have to lose? She’s already lost everything. Trying to escape her nightmare, she decides to head to Treasure Creek, hoping it might just become her dream come true. It ends up being a charming, beautiful community with caring, kind people – except for one bachelor, Gage Parker, who definitely does not have marriage on his mind.
When he drives upon a woman in a torn, muddy wedding dress kicking her car, Gage Parker thinks the worst. His conscious won’t let him leave her stranded. But when all his attempts to pawn her off on someone else fail, he is forced to take her to his home that he shares with his grandmother and his baby nephew. While he is less than pleased, his grandmother and nephew immediately connect with Karenna. Before he knows it, he’s offered Karenna the position of nanny to care for his nephew. She gets grandma to rest, gets Matthew to flourish, and gets under his skin. Will he be able to ignore the surfacing feelings that he thought he’d buried for good?
Despite the fact that he makes it abundantly clear that he’s not interested in a relationship -- he obviously doesn’t want to let anyone close again, not even his family -- Karenna finds herself drawn to him. She can see that he holds a tight rein on his emotions and he habitually wears a frown or scowl to prove it. But she sees past all that and knows there’s more to Gage than meets the eye. She finds herself falling in love with his nephew, grandmother, and the town. Can she keep herself from falling in love with Gage? Will she be able to break down the barriers he’s put up to keep the world at bay and find the man he used to be?
Once again, Jillian Hart has given us a sweet, love story that’s a joy to read. She shows us we can’t let past hurts and betrayals rob us of the blessings that God has in store for us. It’s easy to let love and hope vanish from our dreams and even our day-to-day existence – if we let it. Crawling inside ourselves and hiding from our feelings is not the answer. Listening to God and being willing to step out in faith, however, can heal even the most broken hearted. Thank you, Jillian. Your story entertains our minds and warms our hearts.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Jill grew up on her family's homestead on Washington state, near Carnation, Washington, where she raised cattle to pay for her college tuition, rode horses through the pristine foothills of the Cascade Mountain range and scribbled stories in her spare time.
After earning an English degree from Whitman College (what better way to go through college than to constantly read books?), she traveled, worked in advertising, taught Sunday school and volunteered before becoming a writer.
When she's not hard at work on her next story, Jill can be found chatting with a friend, stopping for a café mocha with a book in hand, and spending quiet evenings at home with her family.
